MY JOURNEY INTO MYSTICAL ART - Tracey's Studio
Have you ever felt that pull to create something that isn’t just beautiful, but timeless, something that speaks to ancient mysteries and deep-rooted connections? That’s the heart of my work, where each piece isn’t just an image—it’s an exploration of the spiritual and natural world that feels as if it’s woven into my very being. As an artist, I’m driven by an urge to capture the magic of life, the sacred essence of nature, and the echoes of my Celtic ancestry that whisper through everything I create.
When I sit down to paint, sketch, or envision a new piece, I’m not just creating for today. I’m drawing from a tapestry of myth, folklore, and spirituality that’s as old as the hills. My work is a space where I feel connected to the spirits of my Scottish, Irish, and German grandparents—ancestors whose lives were steeped in a reverence for nature, for stories passed down, and for the mysteries that linger in the spaces we can’t see but feel. It’s this lineage that inspires me to bring my art to life with the same wonder and respect that they must have felt for the world around them for many, many ancestral generations.
If you’ve looked at my art, you’ll know that women are often an artistic presence, often standing alone yet entwined with nature. These figures aren’t just representations of femininity—they’re embodiments of the divine feminine, an essence that flows through every leaf, river, and creature. I want my art to honour the sacred feminine, to celebrate the goddess energy that is both nurturing and fiercely protective.
For me, nature isn’t just a setting. It’s a living, breathing force that speaks its own language, and through my art, I try to capture that. I see my pieces as a communion between the feminine spirit and the natural world—a bond that feels ancient and undeniable. When I depict these figures surrounded by forests, rivers, or wild animals, I’m expressing that sense of harmony, that interconnectedness that I hold dear.

Honouring Nature and the Wild World
The creatures of the natural world are more than just inspiration—they’re messengers, guardians, and kindred spirits. Animals appear frequently in my work because I see them as symbols of wisdom, grace, and mystery. They hold a unique place in my art, representing the connection I feel with the wild—a respect for its rhythms and a deep love for the creatures who call it home.
To me, an owl isn’t just an owl; it’s a spirit guide with knowing eyes, a creature that embodies the mystery and wisdom of the night. A wolf is more than a predator; it’s a silent protector of wild secrets. In bringing these animals to life in my art, I hope to remind others of our kinship with these beings, to honour the magic they carry and the lessons they offer.
Echoes of Celtic Myth and the Mystical
As someone with Celtic ancestry, I feel a profound connection to the myths and folklore of my heritage. These are stories and symbols that feel like home, and I try to bring that sense of ancient, rooted wonder into every piece I create. When I explore Celtic symbols in my art, I feel like I’m tapping into a language my ancestors knew—a visual poetry that celebrates life’s mysteries.
There’s magic in the old stories, in the fairytales that balance wonder with danger, and it’s this balance I try to capture in my work. I want my art to feel like it could step into the pages of these myths, to carry that same sense of enchantment that has held people’s imaginations for centuries. When I paint or draw, I think of my grandparents’ stories, and their respect for the natural and the spiritual world, and I try to infuse that same reverence into my art.
Halloween’s Spellbinding Influence
For me, Halloween isn’t just a holiday; it’s a season of magic filled with ancient traditions, witchy folklore, and the energy of the unseen.
I’ve always had an undying love for Halloween—it’s my favourite season, a time of year when mystery and the supernatural feel alive. When I create spooky season art, it is a celebration of that spirit, an homage to the enchantment of Halloween and the timeless wonder of the natural world. Each piece I create is inspired by the energy of fall, the warmth of autumn colours, and that sense of magic in the air that makes Halloween feel like a world apart, yet so intricately natural.
Leaving My Mark in the World of Mystical and Halloween Art
For me, art is more than just a craft or a way to create beauty; it’s a legacy and an invitation. Each piece is an offering, a way to connect deeply—to nature, to the universe, and to the lineage that has brought me here. My hope is that my work becomes part of the Halloween season itself, celebrating everything that makes this time of year so enchantingly mysterious. Through my art, I want to reawaken that part of us that believes in something more, that sees magic and meaning in the world. It’s about inviting others to step into an enchanted world, to feel the familiar thrill of autumn’s crisp air, the whispering leaves, and the presence of spirits in the shadows.
I want my work to linger in memory, to spark that timeless wonder that Halloween and the supernatural evoke each year. By weaving together the spirits of my ancestors, the wild creatures of the earth, and the cosmic mysteries that captivate us, I hope to leave behind a legacy that honours life’s mysteries and celebrates the beauty of the unseen. It’s a journey I’m grateful to share with you—a journey that connects us to the earth, to the stars, and to the stories that shape us, inviting everyone to experience the beauty, power, and magic of the natural and supernatural world.
What does Halloween and the mystical mean to you? Is there a story, a symbol, or a memory that brings out that magical thrill each autumn?
